Kern County's economy runs on oil, farming and freight, and each one needs fence. We build chain link and steel perimeter fencing for oilfield service yards, equipment lots, warehouses, packing sheds, shops and storage sites in Bakersfield and the towns around it. Typical work includes 6 to 8 foot chain link with or without privacy slats, ornamental steel along a street frontage, slide and swing gates sized for trucks, and enclosures for equipment and trash.
Security details have rules. Inside the City of Bakersfield, the municipal code restricts barbed and electrified wire. In commercial and industrial zones the lowest strand of barbed wire on a perimeter fence must be at least 6 feet 3 inches above the highest adjoining grade. Unincorporated sites follow Kern County's ordinance instead. We check the zone for your parcel and design the fence to fit it, including any screening the city or county requires along a street.
Conditions on open sites are rough on fences. Wind loads a slatted or screened chain link fence much harder than a bare one, so posts and footings are sized up when privacy material is added. Dust gets into gate rollers and operators, so we choose hardware that can be cleaned and serviced. Before any digging we have underground lines located through USA North 811, and on oilfield and farm properties we ask the owner to point out private lines that the utilities will not mark.
Commercial & security fencing in Bakersfield: common questions
Can I put barbed wire on a commercial fence in Bakersfield?
In the city's commercial and industrial zones, yes, if the lowest strand is at least 6 feet 3 inches above the highest adjoining grade (Bakersfield Municipal Code section 17.08.180). Residential zones are much more restricted, and county sites follow Kern County rules.
Do you install automatic gates for truck yards?
Yes. We install slide and swing gates with operators, keypads and remotes. Tell us the opening width, how many vehicles use it each day and whether power is already at the gate.
Will privacy slats or windscreen make my chain link fence blow over?
They add a lot of wind load. A fence that will carry slats or screen should have heavier posts, closer spacing and deeper footings from the start. If you plan to add them to an existing fence, have us look at the framework first.
